Medical Marijuana Saves Local Animals
Pets Get High on Love From Friends

Joshua Tree, CA – Thanks to medical marijuana, Fluffy, Fido and Trigger can all breathe a sigh of relief at the Morongo Basin Humane Society Animal Shelter. According to a press release, the state has cut funding to the local animal shelter, threatening to close it, leaving the animals homeless and some people out of jobs. However, one local business has come to the rescue - the California Alternative Medical Solutions (CAMS), a Yucca Valley medical marijuana dispensary, has volunteered to financially support the animal shelter and keep its doors open.

Keeping all the staff fully employed, maintaining the utilities, buying the pet food, paying the vet bills, along with supplying the cat litter, pets toys and other miscellaneous needs, costs more than $4,000 a month, the press release said. Those costs will be covered by CAMS and the collective's 300 members. As a collective, each member agrees to volunteer their expertise and services to the dispensary whether it be donating time, construction, landscaping or maintenance work.
In celebration of this sponsorship, CAMS will hold a check presentation ceremony open to the public and members of the media on Thursday, June 11 at 11:00 a.m., at the Morongo Basin Humane Society Animal Shelter located at 4646 Sunview Road, Joshua Tree.

Various programs and incentives will be offered for adopting parents and animal lovers in general. Local businesses have generously donated gift certificates for their, “Adoption Incentive Program”- a gift for anyone adopting a pet that day. Also, they will be offering a “Guardian Angel Program” for people unable to take home a pet, but who want to sponsor a pet. Anyone can pick out their favorite animal and sponsor it until it finds a home. Additionally, anyone can help by donating their time to play with an animal, take it for walks, or help with food and vet costs. Volunteers will receive a plaque on that animals cage to show that they sponsored the animal.

Animal lovers also can meet at “Yappy Hour” sponsored by Applebees restaurant from 5-7 p.m. Contact the Morongo Basin Humane Society Animal Shelter at (760) 366-3786 or the CAMS at 800-409-7969 ext.740 or email them at: afrench@californiaams.org
