Genuine Draft Bed & Breakfast
Dream Come Trueby Bill Marchese
June 24, 2010What began as a weekend project years ago for Gailena and Gary Jacobs has grown into a unique ranch with a bed and breakfast, which they plan to expand in the weekends to come.
The Genuine Draft Bed and Breakfast is part of their five-acre ranch on Juniper Road, which backs up to a wild hillside in Morongo Valley. It’s a place to get away from it all, except for the menagerie of pets that inhabit the ranch.
If you are an animal lover, you’ll love the ranch. The ranch boasts five Percheon horses used mainly for carriage rides, five dogs, two cats, two parrots, a miniature horse named Juliet and miniature burro named Romeo, both about 32 inches tall, a goat named Norman who likes hikes on the nearby trails, a pot-bellied pig named Wilbur, a cage full of doves, some chickens and a rooster known as Chester the molester.
The guesthouse is a cedar lined a-frame hayloft above the horse barn, a cozy room with a view of the Mt. San Jacinto in the distance. The room comes complete with a king size bed, a bar and mini-fridge and an old fashioned claw-footed bathtub. An outside deck offers a view of Coyote hill, which changes color with the setting sun. The room rents for $175 a night, including a home made breakfast.
The Jacobs are also building a western style saloon that will be a party house with a dance floor and a bar. Also on the drawing board is a Wild West style bordello that will have two additional B&B rooms, all within earshot of the cooing doves.
The name, “Genuine Draft” for the B&B came while imbibing on a popular brand of beer, which also fit with the horses, which are strong French draft horses. They can pull either the hay wagon, a 12-passenger trolley or a Roman style chariot. These can be rented for special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries or holiday parties.
The entire ranch can be rented for catered events, concerts or other celebrations. For more information, call (760)363-1912 or go online, www.genuinedraftranch.com
