Cilantro Gallery Spices Up Palm Springs by Sandra Schulman July 29, 2010
Cilantro Gallery goes south of the border for it’s artistic inspiration. Specializing in Mexican artists Carlos Albert, Omar Centeno, Salvador Larios and Rodo Padilla, this fine groups creates art our of bronze, paper mache, ceramic, fiberglass, marble, wood, gold and silver.
Using the symbols and vibrant colors Mexico is known for, two of the artists, Carlos Munoz and Albert Ickenroth, caught the eye of the national restaurant chain Rainforest Café in 1990, creating gorillas, hippos, giraffes, snakes and other creatures of the wild for their decor.
They proved so popular the duo began the Carlos Albert Collection and now have their work exhibited in the U.S., Europe, South America and Japan. They also design jewelry in semi-precious stones, sterling silver, and gold vermeil. All pieces are signed in limited editions.
Ceramist Larios hails from Jalisco, Mexico, creating fine art jewelry in exuberant colors as well as sculptures of surreal figures.
Padilla is one of Mexico’s most recognized artisans working in stoneware and bronze. He has been exhibiting since 1992, winning awards for his limited edition pieces.
The gallery is a world unto itself, filled with inspiration, whimsy, and imagination.
